Geoid 2009 Now Available

The National Geodetic Survey has released two new geoid models: gravimetric (USGG2009) and the more commonly used hybrid (GEOID09). The hybrid model transforms from GPS height measurements to NAVD88. The new models incorporate information from satellite gravity and altimetry missions, and improved computation methods. Kentucky contributed 126 data points which include GPS data on benchmarks. The quality ellipsoid heights from the NSRS 2007 adjustment and NAVD88 orthometric heights were used to model the geoid height undulation for the GEOID09 hybrid geoid model.
